Upcoming Retreat with Younge Khachab Rinpoche:

Chod: Cutting Through Attachment

Younge Khachab Rinpoche returns to Kansas City to teach the
profound method for developing Bodhichitta - the mind of Enlightenment - Chöd.

The Chöd ritual involves a form of self-sacrifice, whereby the practitioner
visualizes their own body as the offering at a form of tantric feast. The practice engenders a
sense of victory and fearlessness over attachment. It brings about a direct experience of one’s
inherent open and luminous nature. The unique combination of sacred song, ritual instruments,
visualization and supreme generosity redefines our limited sense of self.

Nagarjuna's Letter To A Friend
Started November 29, 2009

The great Indian Buddhist master Nagarjuna (1st - 2nd century A.D.) wrote his celebrated
poem Letter to a Friend as a letter of advice to a king with whom he was friendly.
Despite its short length (only 123 verses), it is a monument in the Indian Buddhist tradition.
It covers the whole Mahayana path with unusual clarity and memorable imagery, and it is for this
reason that it is widely quoted by Tibet's great masters and scholars in the many commentaries
they have written on the Buddhist path. The poem's condensed style and concentration
of technical subjects, however, make it difficult to understand for the average reader, and
much of it requires a certain amount of explanation if its message is to be conveyed fully.

We will be gathering at 12:30 PM on Sundays for our "20 minute sit" meditation session
(no experience necessary, basic meditation instruction can be provided)
and a discussion of Buddhist topics following (see above).

Bring your books & cushions. Opening prayers and dedication will be provided.

BASIC MEDITATION CLASS:

Finding Your Place:
Methods of Buddhist Meditation

What is Meditation?
Why do we need to meditate?
What is a “practice”?
How do I practice?

When we begin to explore the Buddhist path there are many methods and techniques that often complicate this profound
path to inner knowledge. In this basic meditation course we will learn how to place the mind in meditation using both the
common and special methods of Tibetan Buddhism.

While this class requires a basic knowledge of Buddhism, it is designed to provide beginners with the means
to enter into practice by teaching meditation, basic terminology, general Buddhist concepts and providing
additional resources for personal exploration.
