Sponsorship

You may sign up for a sponsorship level online by clicking here.

Sponsorship allows for a more intimate connection to sangha life. The benefits of sponsorship, depending on the level of support, include the Rime Shedrub Ling newsletter, access to online forums, digital recordings, webcasts, and discounts on the price of teachings and retreats. Access to public teachings and empowerments are, as always, open to everyone – at Rinpoche's discretion, based on the student's level of understanding and aptitude. The stages in which one participates are outlined on the main website.

Non-Sponsors

Non-sponsors may attend public teachings and empowerments that interest the individual. Students will be required to pay per teaching (if necessary, financial arrangements can be made with the host). This assists in covering hosting costs. In keeping with Vajrayana tenents, empowerments require refuge and an understanding of the Vajrayana path as explained in the online presentation at www.rimeshedrubling.org (coming soon).

Rinpoche may decline to give certain teachings based on the level of the student’s understanding and aptitude.

Non-sponsors do not have access to online forum, webcasts, or digitally recorded teachings.

We are currently working on ideas for a yearly “thank you” for sponsors of $100+ a month.

Goal:

Please note that these sponsor options are not meant to keep anyone away from teachings or create a hierarchy. This is simply a practical method to support Rinpoche and his project. Currently RSL has slightly over 100 students that participate regularly in the teachings and online discussions. We are trying to move forward to provide Rinpoche with a Dharma center located in the Midwest. The center would allow RSL to host more teachings and retreats without the added burden of renting space. The center would also act as a central hub for Rinpoche, who travels across, not only the United States, but also to Canada, Chile, China, and Australia. In time RSL would like to expand further to have a retreat centers for students who are seriously interested in taking up a retreat of varied lengths. The retreat center would be designed to provide for the retreatants’ needs so that they can focus their time on the dharma.

In order to meet both our short- and long-term goals, it is necessary that we have a Sangha that supports Rinpoche is his activities, both at home and abroad. RSL is planning on purchasing land to found the Dharma center this summer. We are asking for a commitment from every student, to whatever their ability. In order to accomplish our short-term goal, we need the majority of our Sponsors to contribute $30/month. We understand that this may pose a financial burden for some people and that is why the baseline Sponsor is $10/month. For those students who are able to donate more, we would greatly appreciate the added assistance. Students who are unable to meet the demands of a monthly Sponsor should contact Hilary or their local sangha to devise other methods of supporting Rinpoche. There are many ways to become involved in RSL. Together we can make our goals a reality and continue to let RSL and the dharma flourish. If at all possible, arranging donations coming in on a regular basis, such as the 1st or 2nd week of the month, makes it easier for us to present to the bank.

Note on Motivation:

The most important aspect to remember in sponsorship is the merit involved. This may seem like an abstract concept, but when activities such as sponsorship are understood to be an act of merit, then the benefits are far more rewarding. Meritorious activities in the Vajrayana go hand in hand with the teachings. They allow one to be more receptive to the teachings and sangha, build on the cause and conditions of receiving the teaching, and promote the continuation of the dharma. One does not sponsor to promote one’s ego. Milarepa once wrote that, without the sponsor, a yogi cannot practice, therefore the merit of the sponsor and the yogi are equal, since they both endeavor to the dharma.

Other ways to help:

Each sangha needs volunteers during events. Projects such as set up and take down, arranging flowers for altar and Rinpoche’s table. Lama care (hot water, transport etc), altar set up, registration, sales table, greeting arriving students, printing sadhanas and distributing, arranging Tsog, attendant during empowerments and tsog, as well as the final clean up. Please contact each center organizer when you arrive if you would like to volunteer.
